Richard Mauer

Richard is KTUU’s political reporter and will be providing coverage of the upcoming legislative session in Juneau as the senior leader of KTUU’s 2018 political coverage team.

Richard Mauer’s name is a well recognized byline in the state of Alaska, having worked previously at the Anchorage Daily News/Alaska Dispatch News for more than three decades. While at ADN, Rich served as a news editor and supervisor, special projects editor and city editor and has reported from Central America, Iraq, Washington and Juneau. Richard was also a member of the Anchorage Daily News team which produced the highly acclaimed 10 part series, A People in Peril, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service in 1989.

a freelancer in Israel and other countries in the Middle East for Gannett News Service and the San Francisco Examiner (during the 1981 Syrian missile crisis), a reporter for the Idaho Statesman, the Western Slope stringer for the Denver Post, regional reporter for the Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction, Colorado, and the editor of the Colorado Daily in Boulder.

Richard grew up in New York, where he attended high school in the Bronx. He went on to attend the University of Colorado, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism in 1973. In his free time, Richard enjoys racquetball and softball.
